Last Phase of “Middle-Income” Senior Project Begins

Calamar Enterprises, a Wheatfield-based developer of commercial and large-scale residential properties, is opening the last phase of its newest senior housing project today as part of the Woodlands Residential Village in its hometown.

Forestview Senior Village is a three-story, 92-unit “independent living” senior apartment complex designed for people age 55 and up who want affordable but “enhanced” living options. There are no income restrictions.

The building includes one-and two-bedroom apartments, with in-suite laundry, walk-in bedroom closets, a game room, a 15-seat theater and media room, a billiards room and a fitness center. Rents range from $1,095 to $1,295 per month, and all units are fully equipped and nonsmoking, according to a Calamar news release. Residents pick which services and features they want to use and pay for, rather than having everything bundled.

Forestview is located at 3959 Forest Parkway, in the Woodlands, which is one of the largest senior housing developments in Western New York, with nearly 300 units in the 26- acre village and 34 patio homes.

Designed by Silvestri Architects with public input, it’s the third and final phase of the $30 million development, which also includes Willow Housing, a government-assisted People Inc. property, and the “modest” Woodlands Senior Apartments.

Woodlands is part of the larger Woodlands Corporate Center East, a 120-acre mixed-use development that opened in 2005 and includes commercial, industrial, office and flex space, as well as the senior housing. There are also 34 private patio homes on a six-acre man-made lake.
